PAN or Declaration of Landlord required to be collected from employees paying rent more than Rs 180000 Annually

Income Tax department has made a new rule for rent declaration.

Employer has to collect landlord details like landlord name, permanent address and PAN  from employees who are declaring for rent more than Rs 1,80,000 per annum. In case if landlord doesn't have a PAN then a signed declaration from the landlord has to be submitted.

Further if annual rent paid by the employee exceeds Rs 1,80,000 per annum, it is mandatory for the employee to report PAN of the landlord to the employer. In case the landlord does not have a PAN, a declaration to this effect from the landlord along with the name and address of the landlord should be filed by the employee.
